Federal Signal announces finalization of consolidation decision
OAK BROOK, Ill. (Sept. 24, 2004) — Today, Federal Signal, Inc. announced that it had finalized the tentative decision to consolidate the Oshkosh Leach Company manufacturing operations into its facility in Medicine Hat, Alberta. As a result of this decision, Leach Company manufacturing operations in Oshkosh will be phased out over the next six months.
On June 30, 2004, Federal Signal announced the tentative decision. Since then, the Company has met with the UAW and its Local 1108 to discuss the tentative decision. Those discussions concluded this morning and the Company finalized its decision.
The UAW and Company will meet in the near future to discuss the effects of the plant shutdown on hourly employees working at the Oshkosh facility. Current plans call for production to continue into the first quarter of 2005.
The Company will maintain certain functions in Oshkosh, including Sales, Marketing, New Product Development, Engineering, Information Technology and Service.
