ELGIN INTRODUCES REDESIGNED PELICAN® SWEEPER

Larger cab provides greater comfort, Improved visibility and better ease of operation

ELGIN, Ill. (Feb. 5, 2007) - - Elgin Sweeper, the leading manufacturer of street sweepers, has introduced a redesigned Pelican® three-wheel broom sweeper that features an isolation-mounted cab, improved visibility, enhanced ease of operation and easier access for service and maintenance.

In addition to being the flagship product at Elgin Sweeper, the Pelican has been America's most popular urban street sweeper for generations. The new Pelican combines economy and single-lane dumping with a sweep system that easily handles heavy, compacted dirt and bulky debris, as well as smaller particles found in the street.

"Today's challenging sweeper applications require maneuverability, visibility, stability, digging power, and quiet, comfortable operation," said Brian Giles, sweeper products manager at Elgin Sweeper. "Even though the Pelican is a legendary machine, we felt it was the right time to make changes to the design so that the Pelican remains the industry benchmark for sweeping performance."

Giles oversaw the Pelican redesign project, working directly with customers, dealers and Elgin's engineers throughout the new product development and beta test process. "As part of our comprehensive test plan, we distributed seven Pelican beta units to locations across North America, where they could get significant hours of operating time in every type of sweeping application, including road milling, municipal sweeping and standard contract sweeping," Giles said.

According to Giles, Elgin Sweeper received very positive feedback from customers during the Pelican beta test program, primarily focused on the new machine's ease of operation; the roomier, more ergonomic cab; the improved visibility and easier access for maintenance.

Isolation-mounted cab

The clean, quiet, comfortable and spacious isolation-mounted cab features a center console that is easily accessed from both left and right driving positions. The new cab design makes it easier to operate and provides comfort and an all-around command of the work area. Fingertip controls include illuminated and graphically identified gauges and rocker switches.

"During our beta test program, one operator was so impressed with the new cab, he didn't want to get out and the end of his shift," Giles said.

Improved visibility

The new Pelican features large windows, wide see-through doors and a full-width windshield for 360° visibility. "For operators who are used to the previous model, once they get over the amount of additional glass in the new Pelican cab, they'll definitely appreciate the increased visibility." Giles said.

Easier access for service and maintenance

Easy servicing lowers ownership costs and increases sweeper usage. The easier daily service is to perform, the more likely it will get done correctly and on time. "With only a few grease points on the new Pelican, customers are going to find this sweeper to be much easier to service and maintain on a daily basis," Giles said.

To ensure easy monitoring of fluid levels, the hydraulic tank directly behind the cab features a sight glass inspection tube. For operator convenience and greater ease of maintenance, a water level gauge is fully visible from the cab.

"When you need an all-around sweeper with incredible digging power and performance, the Pelican is the perfect choice," Giles said.
